About us

In today’s digital age, the internet has become an integral part of daily life, offering numerous opportunities for communication, education, and empowerment. However, it has also become a platform where women and girls are increasingly subjected to online gender-based violence (OGBV), including harassment, abuse, and exploitation. This growing issue not only threatens their safety and well-being but also perpetuates broader societal challenges such as gender inequality and social exclusion.

Recognizing the urgent need to address this pressing concern, Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) developed this portal to serve as a comprehensive resource for victims and survivors of OGBV. Our aim is to provide a safe space where individuals can access vital information, report incidents, and connect with support services. By empowering women and girls with the necessary tools and knowledge, we strive to foster a safer and more inclusive digital environment.

About WOUGNET

Established in May 2000, the Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to enhancing the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women and girls in Uganda. Our mission is to empower women and girls through ICTs, enabling them to address collective challenges and contribute to sustainable development. We envision a society where women and girls are fully empowered through the use of ICTs, leading to equitable and inclusive growth.

Through various initiatives, WOUGNET promotes and supports the use of ICTs by women and women’s organizations, enabling them to leverage opportunities presented by technology to tackle national and local sustainable development challenges. Our efforts are geared towards creating an open, safe, trusted, and empowering internet for all, with a particular focus on closing the gender digital divide in Uganda.

By fostering digital literacy, advocating for digital rights, and addressing issues such as online gender-based violence, WOUGNET is committed to creating a safer and more inclusive digital environment for women and girls in Uganda.
