This women’s rights online legal education guide walks you through the international, regional, and national human rights instruments governing freedom of expression and access to information online including social media in Uganda. At International and regional level, the guide walks you through some of the instruments that Uganda is a signatory to and the level of adherence and the guide provides recommendations on what needs to be done to promote freedom of expression and access to information online including social media. At national level, the guide walks you through the relevant frameworks, their interpretations and applications, criminal charges and penalties associated with the framework. In addition, the guide provides digital security tips for social media and online platform users to safely and freely navigate online platforms including the protection mechanisms for human rights defenders and the civil society and how to file a request for information / record in possession of the state or any public entity.
